			I have been laboring over this love for over 4 years, production is now entering its final phase of an extensive 2 1/2 year shoot.. Funded so far by two essential, yet minor grants from M.I.N.D. and South East Arts I've written and am producing, directing & animating Butterfly. I had to design and storyboard the film early on in order to get the 20+ grandiose sets built, sculpt and create the numerous puppet characters and plan out the intricate props details and camera moves required to tell the story. I've involved the talents of over 120 amateurs, students and professionals from voice over to model-maker, composer to costume maker. My aim has always been to make a movie which has the feel of an old fashioned fairy tale with honest storytelling and a strong message. The style was important as I wanted to combine the handmade look you get from using 'real' model puppets with a visual style you'd associate with a cinematic blockbuster - with sweeping camera moves, exquisite, epic and detailed sets and characters that, with the aid of a few thousand miniscule moves, can really express themselves.
			To me there is still a strange but pure individual kind of magic that comes from watching models get up and walk around, that simply cannot be recreated by all the incredible power of computers and digital animation and I hope people will feel the same when they see my film.
